Spanning an area from London Road to Islington, the Fabric District forms the soul of Liverpool’s illustrious Knowledge Quarter. This eastern edge of the city centre, just two minutes’ walk from Lime Street Station, is fast becoming a target for regeneration.

With a rich history at the heart of the Liverpool textile industry, the District has an undercurrent of fiercely local, independent, and creative commerce which still exists today. It has been reimagined by a new wave of entrepreneurs, established developers, and longstanding business owners, with an updated identity and an inclusive vision.

The Fabric District CIC is determined to bring more homes and people to the area, recently highlighted by the Sunday Times as one of the UK’s top investment hotspots; a place to “enjoy life’s rich (and affordable) tapestry”. The Sunday Times also featured Liverpool as a whole, including the Fabric District, as one of the best places to live in the North West of England in 2025.

Rebecca Eatwell, founder at Font Communications, said: “The potential for the Fabric District is huge. Once a largely forgotten part of the city, it’s now, quite rightly becoming a focus for regeneration. It’s got a rich and diverse history and already has an eclectic mix of entrepreneurs, start-ups and creative businesses. This is the soul of the Knowledge Quarter. By pulling together, we can create a thriving city centre neighbourhood and shine a spotlight on what’s already here, driving investment and growth.”

Michael Birkett, Chair of the Fabric District CIC, said: “Rebecca’s extensive experience in placemaking and strategic communications will be invaluable as we enter this pivotal period for the Fabric District. We’ve made significant progress in gaining recognition for the area, but there’s much more to be done. Her expertise will help us amplify our message and build on the momentum we’ve created.”

During the last few years, the Fabric District has blossomed into a vibrant hub for creative enterprises, including Kempston Street Studios (formerly Parr Street Studios), which has hosted artists from Coldplay to Miles Kane, and The Tapestry, a creative community hub in a converted warehouse. The district is also home to HopScotch Whisky Bar, Wasted Heroes apparel, Commune creative bar, and Try & Lilly Ltd, a 160-year-old hat manufacturer, among many others.

Against this backdrop, the Fabric District CIC is looking to further bolster the board with a new lead on culture. This Culture Pillar Lead will develop the District’s cultural regeneration strategy and establish partnerships with creative organisations across Liverpool.
